Movie Night Monday

The Movie Project

Week 16: Kansas (Paper Moon)

Category: Crime/Black & White/Comedy

Quote of Interest:

“I want my $200!”

–Addie Loggins

Three words to describe this film/state: Kismetic con artists

Best ‘Extras’:

  • Ribbon Saleslady, played by Dorothy Price
  • Salesgirl – $20 bill, played by Dejah Moore
  • Harem Tent Barker, played by Kenneth Hughes

State food/recipe to try: Chili and Cinnamon Rolls (it’s a thing!)

Earring Inspo Character: Addie Loggins

Other Notes: One of my favorite things about watching older movies I’ve never seen before is seeing the little details that have influenced modern film and actors. As far as I’d known before, “I want my $2!!” was strictly a Better Off Dead thing. Jim felt that this movie (or director) influenced the work of the Coen Brothers. Tatum O’Neal was (and still is) the youngest person to ever have won an Academy Award, for her role in this sweet and funny film.

Grade: B+

State Facts:

Next up: Kentucky (Coal Miner’s Daughter). Follow along to discuss! Share your thoughts in the Comments section below.
