The Movie Project

Week 21: Massachusetts (Good Will Hunting)

Category: Drama/Indie

Quote of Interest:

“People call these things imperfections, but they’re not–ah, that’s the good stuff…..and then we get to choose who we let into our weird little worlds.”

–dr. Sean maguire

Three words to describe this film/state: Heart reigns supreme

Best ‘Extras’:

  • Girl on Street, played by Shannon Egleson
  • Harvard Square Extra (uncredited), played by Nancy Carlsson-Paige
  • Bystander (uncredited), played by Stephen Trouskie

State food/recipe to try: Annie’s Irish Soda Bread

Earring Inspo Character: Skylar

Other Notes: This is one of the few films in the project that I’ve seen before, but it was so long ago (like when it came out in 1997) that it was almost like seeing it for the first time. I had a new, bittersweet appreciation for Robin Williams’s Dr. Maguire–definitely my favorite character. It’s interesting to rewatch movies at different points in our lives and relate to roles we might not have before. Anything that evokes our human brokenness is a good reminder of the compassion we should remember to show anyone we meet–whether it’s the quiet, pensive colleague or the standoffish cool guy. Glad to revisit this one.
