Week 19: Maine (The Iron Giant)

Category: Animated Action/Adventure

Quote of Interest:

“You are who you choose to be.”

–Hogarth Hughes

Three words to describe this film/state: Souls don’t die

Best ‘Extras’: n/a, but I never knew that Vin Diesel voiced The Iron Giant

State food/recipe to try: Indian Pudding

Earring Inspo Character: The Iron Giant

Other Notes: Maybe I was in a certain mood, but I loved this sweet tearjerker of a movie. When we heard “Bad robot,” we were convinced that this was the inspiration for J. J. Abrams’s production company, but he says the name came to him during a writers’ meeting. There were rumors of a sequel that never materialized. I had no idea that the book this was based on (The Iron Man) was written to console author Ted Hughes’s children after their mother (Sylvia Plath) committed suicide. A great superhero movie for all ages, The Iron Giant turns 20 this year.
