Other Notes: This one’s a little drawn-out. Without so many long pauses, longing stares, cross-country trips, and eternally-patient cowboys, an hour could have been shaved off of this nearly three-hour film. Although THW came before The Notebook, we had to laugh at the barn scene near the end for its similarities. We already laugh at The Notebook scene because of this meme:

And the jeans! There are so many bad jeans in this film. I can see the ranch jeans, but New York?? Come on, you’re a magazine editor. Was 1998 the black hole of blue jeans? Apparently. I do admire the actors in this–a young ScarJo, bitchin’ Kristin Scott Thomas, and always-rugged Robert Redford, whose mad whispering skills slayed everyone around him.
