Other Notes: As both a sports and feel-good family film, Hoosiers was not our favorite. I didn’t know til looking it up that it was loosely based on the 1954 Milan High School basketball team, the smallest school ever to win a single-class state basketball title in Indiana. The acting was okay–Dennis Hopper was a little cartoony, and Winger’s RBF was pretty good (though also trite). It’s fun that the movie was based on a true story, but it was just another formulaic sports film in our book. The classic 80s synth-infused score, however, did not disappoint.

Other Notes: First time watching this highly entertaining classic; my favorite scene was the one at Triple Rick Baptist Church with its singing, dancing, and air-flipping congregation. What really struck me was the amount of damage caused by the car chases and general criminal chaos…I had to look up the film budget–almost $30 million (2018 equivalent of almost $84 million), including a budget for cocaine, a personal bar, a 24-hour auto body, 40 stunt drivers, and over 70 old patrol cars. Belushi’s constant carousing delayed production on several occasions. Also, they really dropped a Ford Pinto from a helicopter. Fun performances by Aretha Franklin, Cab Calloway, James Brown, Ray Charles, and John Lee Hooker.
